Happy Mother’s Day, Avatar, and a Few Other Tidbits!

I hope every Mother out there had a wonderful day!  We kids aren’t always easy, and we may not always show it, but a big fat thank you to all you moms for putting up with us and loving us no matter what!

The parentals came home for the weekend.  My dad is an avid Supernatural fan, just like me.  Well maybe not quite like me.  He loves the show, but doesn’t frequent any websites or squeal like a fan girl, which is probably a good thing.  Seeing as how I DVR every episode on two TV’s (for some reason it didn’t tape one week and since I can’t have that, I decided to have it a backup plan) we had a Supernatural marathon for the last three episodes he missed.  He can’t believe the season finale’ is next week.   In truth, neither can I.

Afterwards my mom sat down with us to watch Avatar (she kind of likes Supernatural, but it’s not her favorite so she was in and out of the room).  My dad grumbled at first, but then got completely drawn in.  My mom loved it!  She was hollering so loud my husband could hear her from the bedroom.  It was hilarious.  I was cracking up.  It was definitely a good family day.

Okay enough with the mushy gushy stuff.  I finished and I really like the concept, and will probably pick up the second one.  It’s a great story, but there were a lot of politics involved and I’m not so big on that personally. I don’t like politics in the real world, let alone when I’m reading.  Even so, the dynamics and characters made it so I didn’t mind as much as I usually do.  That’s saying a lot.  Kudos to Mr. Del Franco for writing a very well rounded story.

Next on my list is going to be  along with  , and whatever else I find while I’m at the library.  I’m hoping they have Changes by Jim Butcher, but it still may be too new.  I put it on hold, but someone may have gotten to it before me anyways.  Small town, small library, which means there aren’t  as many copies of new books as I’d like.  I’ll get to it eventually.

I entered the Kick Butt First Line Contest over at the website of author Jaime Rush.  If you want to give it a shot, check it out.  If nothing else it’s a lot of fun that can get the creative juices flowing!

Well there’s a little bit of daylight and a whole lot of night left.  I think I’m going to go work on my own story and hope the characters are cooperative.  Have a wonderful night, and if you can manage it a great Monday.

Stabbing Your Eyeball With a Spoon and Other Ramblings

Character charts, while they are tedious little things that can make you want to pull your hair out and stab your eyeball with a spoon, actually seem to be really helpful in rounding out your characters.  Thinking that some of my characters were nothing more than skin and bones I decided to fatten them up by using an in depth character chart to find out more about them.  Now I am sad because one of my less meaty character’s has completely buffed up and having him whisper his history and honorable nature into my ear made me realize how much I’m going to miss him.  Not to mention his friends, who I wouldn’t blame for beating me for doing this to them.

I could always revamp the story so that he doesn’t die.  Maybe have him severely maimed, but his death is a turning point for the protagonist and I’m not sure she’ll have that moment if he’s just hurt.  I think before I do anymore with the story I need to finish the charts for the main characters as I have a feeling that once they let me in on their pasts it may vastly change the story into something even better.  I should have asked them more before I started.

So what?  I sound like a loony person.  Who doesn’t talk to their characters or get attached to them?

My working title is L-A-M-E.  It sounds corny even to me, but since I haven’t been able to come up with anything even slightly non lame it’s going to stick around until I get the rest of the rough draft pounded out.  Hell it’ll probably stick around until after the second, maybe even the final draft.  Hopefully during that time something will stick out in the story and I could turn it into a title that doesn’t sound like a two year old randomly blurted it out.

There are only two more episodes of Supernatural left for the season, which begs me to wonder, what am I going to do without my fix?  Granted there’s reading, which I do all the time, but it’s not the same as watching two sexy men (sometimes three if Castiel is in the episode) run around on screen killing evil things and trying to ward off the apocalypse.  Reruns it shall be for me.  Reruns I say! (Psst if you need a fix, be sure to check out the Fanwiki!  Check out the link on my sidebar!)

On the book front I finished:  It was the first book I read by him and it was hilarious!  Kudos Mr. Moore!  Great story line, witty dialogue all around, and truly unique characters!  Not to mention the hell hounds!  Now those are some big doggies!

I’m onto  I’m enjoying it so far.  This chick has so many different undercover alias’s that it’s amazing she can keep them all straight!  Well at least she has so far.  I don’t know what happens because I haven’t finished the book yet!

Okay, okay, it’s time to stop procrastinating and get back to the character charts.  If you see me going to lean on a pole and I miss, it’s probably because I have no depth perception because I stabbed my eye out with a spoon.  Hmmm I wonder how I’ll look with an eye patch.

Just Another Manic Monday

It’s just another Manic Monday. I’ve been up since 8am, already did a crap load of work. I will probably have to do more later, but that’s okay. In between I have several hours to write. Above you see where I’m at in the story. Not bad, but I can most definitely do better.

Realization has hit. I just have to keep moving the story forward. I can go back once the first draft is complete to cut chapters, edit idiotic dialogue, and add points into the story that would help it move along better. I’ve never gotten completely through because, well I go over the same few chapters again and again trying to make every detail perfect. I just need to hammer out the story. That’s why it’s called a rough draft.

The dogs are running around outside like crazy. Well the puppies are. Momma Peg and Storm are content to sleep. Rolley and Shadow however have been chasing each other around for over an hour. They never seem to run out of energy when they play together.

Supernatural’s 100th episode was just, awesome! If you missed it, find a way to watch it! By far the best episode of the season! This week’s episode seems like it’s going to be the comic relief episode. A lot of people complain about those type of episodes, but I like them. It gives us a break from the edge of your seat, witty drama, and the fans can just have some fun watching the boys do what they do best. I know I know I’m a dork.

On that note, this is going to be a short post because I’m not going to procrastinate. I’m going to get back on the story!! Enjoy your Monday! Not likely, I know, but you can try!
