Completely Lacking In Creativity/Thursday Thunks

My brain is crashing, fast and hard.  My creativity has burned up with the engines.  I’m in red alert mode trying to douse the flames and rescue my muse from the inferno that seems to have us divided.  In the mean time, in an effort to blog about something other than crap, I’ve decided to try a meme to get some of the creative juices flowing to extinguish the flames.

Without further ado, I give you…

Thursday Thunks!

1. Tomorrow you’ll be thinking to yourself?

“Ugh, I shouldn’t have drank so much last night.  Oh well, if you’re gonna be dumb, you gotta be strong.”

2. Where’s your picket fence?

In a log cabin style home in the middle of nowhere with my husband and pups.  Maybe with a lake somewhere near by that we can swim in during the summers.

3. With a big smile on your face, you do what?

Hit the bulls eye on my archery target from fifty feet away!

4. If I was to walk up to you, you’d do what?

Probably ask, “What’s shakin’ bacon?”

5. The list goes on and on. What list?

Of problems that keep arising with one of my jobs.

6. Does every rose have a thorn or does every thorn have a rose?

Um, sure, why not?  Two sides to every coin and what not.

7. Talk dirty to me. What kind of mop/vacuum/dust thingymabob do you use?

I don’t remember the brand, and the vacuum itself is great, but so fricken’ complicated that I usually forget out to turn it on.  DOH!

8. Your Mamma don’t _______ and your Daddy don’t _______.

Dance, Rock and roll!  Except that’s not true.  I think it would be, My momma don’t know when to quit an argument, and my daddy don’t tolerate bullshit.

9. Ever had a suitcase packed by your feet, and if so where were you going?

On a cruise!

10. Have you ever ridden in a limousine?

Yup, several times, for proms and homecomings.  Geez those seem like so long ago.

11. I went to bed too soon and got up to ____?

Flippin early!

12. “And this last mile I travel with you “, to where?

Anywhere, as long as we’re together.  (Geez that was cheesy)

Summer Storms

I’m sitting on the back porch, slow grilling a pork loin. One small cloud came over head and drizzled a light sun shower. It smelled clean and sweet as the rain mixed with the trees and the grass, making me wish for a hard core thunderstorm. I don’t know why I love them so much, but honestly they are one of my favorite things. I always sit on the porch to watch them, no matter how violent they may be. Even when lightning is striking the lake behind my house I enjoy sipping on a drink and watching the chaos of the storm.

I haven’t been reading as much as I like, but I think that has something to do with stress. Oh and running around like a chicken with my head cut off. Still as of this week, I’m going to start reading like an addict once again. Hey everyone gets burnt out on something every once in a while. I’m just not used to having it happen for reading.

I started Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin. I’m only a few pages into it so I don’t have an actual opinion of it yet, but I do have to say that Jaz’s snarky dialogue intrigues me. Again though, I don’t really know much more than that because I’m not too far into yet.

My story on the other hand is being an ever-loving pain in the ass. Sometimes I just want to shake my laptop and see if the worlds scramble around to make better sentences than I’ve written. Then I realize I would probably kill my computer and might wind up going to prison for computer slaughter. Besides, I don’t have the money to buy a new one right now.

It seems that at the beginning of June I’ll be heading down to Lauderdale to meet my husband’s god sister. She’s pregnant and coming down to visit her father. At least that’s what I think is going on. My husband isn’t the greatest person in giving you the details of a situation. You have to know the right questions to ask, but I was just happy to hear that we were going down South to visit, so I didn’t bother.

This is going to be a short post. I just wanted to get some thoughts down and update the blog a bit. I’ve been extremely busy and don’t really have that much to say at the moment, but hey even when you feel like you have writer’s block you need to push forward. Even if what lands on paper is the worst gibberish it gets you moving. Besides even statues are just giant blob of stone or clay before the artist chips away and molds them into a masterpiece. Push past the crap. Keep writing. That’s my motto.

Happy Mother’s Day, Avatar, and a Few Other Tidbits!

I hope every Mother out there had a wonderful day!  We kids aren’t always easy, and we may not always show it, but a big fat thank you to all you moms for putting up with us and loving us no matter what!

The parentals came home for the weekend.  My dad is an avid Supernatural fan, just like me.  Well maybe not quite like me.  He loves the show, but doesn’t frequent any websites or squeal like a fan girl, which is probably a good thing.  Seeing as how I DVR every episode on two TV’s (for some reason it didn’t tape one week and since I can’t have that, I decided to have it a backup plan) we had a Supernatural marathon for the last three episodes he missed.  He can’t believe the season finale’ is next week.   In truth, neither can I.

Afterwards my mom sat down with us to watch Avatar (she kind of likes Supernatural, but it’s not her favorite so she was in and out of the room).  My dad grumbled at first, but then got completely drawn in.  My mom loved it!  She was hollering so loud my husband could hear her from the bedroom.  It was hilarious.  I was cracking up.  It was definitely a good family day.

Okay enough with the mushy gushy stuff.  I finished and I really like the concept, and will probably pick up the second one.  It’s a great story, but there were a lot of politics involved and I’m not so big on that personally. I don’t like politics in the real world, let alone when I’m reading.  Even so, the dynamics and characters made it so I didn’t mind as much as I usually do.  That’s saying a lot.  Kudos to Mr. Del Franco for writing a very well rounded story.

Next on my list is going to be  along with  , and whatever else I find while I’m at the library.  I’m hoping they have Changes by Jim Butcher, but it still may be too new.  I put it on hold, but someone may have gotten to it before me anyways.  Small town, small library, which means there aren’t  as many copies of new books as I’d like.  I’ll get to it eventually.

I entered the Kick Butt First Line Contest over at the website of author Jaime Rush.  If you want to give it a shot, check it out.  If nothing else it’s a lot of fun that can get the creative juices flowing!

Well there’s a little bit of daylight and a whole lot of night left.  I think I’m going to go work on my own story and hope the characters are cooperative.  Have a wonderful night, and if you can manage it a great Monday.

Stabbing Your Eyeball With a Spoon and Other Ramblings

Character charts, while they are tedious little things that can make you want to pull your hair out and stab your eyeball with a spoon, actually seem to be really helpful in rounding out your characters.  Thinking that some of my characters were nothing more than skin and bones I decided to fatten them up by using an in depth character chart to find out more about them.  Now I am sad because one of my less meaty character’s has completely buffed up and having him whisper his history and honorable nature into my ear made me realize how much I’m going to miss him.  Not to mention his friends, who I wouldn’t blame for beating me for doing this to them.

I could always revamp the story so that he doesn’t die.  Maybe have him severely maimed, but his death is a turning point for the protagonist and I’m not sure she’ll have that moment if he’s just hurt.  I think before I do anymore with the story I need to finish the charts for the main characters as I have a feeling that once they let me in on their pasts it may vastly change the story into something even better.  I should have asked them more before I started.

So what?  I sound like a loony person.  Who doesn’t talk to their characters or get attached to them?

My working title is L-A-M-E.  It sounds corny even to me, but since I haven’t been able to come up with anything even slightly non lame it’s going to stick around until I get the rest of the rough draft pounded out.  Hell it’ll probably stick around until after the second, maybe even the final draft.  Hopefully during that time something will stick out in the story and I could turn it into a title that doesn’t sound like a two year old randomly blurted it out.

There are only two more episodes of Supernatural left for the season, which begs me to wonder, what am I going to do without my fix?  Granted there’s reading, which I do all the time, but it’s not the same as watching two sexy men (sometimes three if Castiel is in the episode) run around on screen killing evil things and trying to ward off the apocalypse.  Reruns it shall be for me.  Reruns I say! (Psst if you need a fix, be sure to check out the Fanwiki!  Check out the link on my sidebar!)

On the book front I finished:  It was the first book I read by him and it was hilarious!  Kudos Mr. Moore!  Great story line, witty dialogue all around, and truly unique characters!  Not to mention the hell hounds!  Now those are some big doggies!

I’m onto  I’m enjoying it so far.  This chick has so many different undercover alias’s that it’s amazing she can keep them all straight!  Well at least she has so far.  I don’t know what happens because I haven’t finished the book yet!

Okay, okay, it’s time to stop procrastinating and get back to the character charts.  If you see me going to lean on a pole and I miss, it’s probably because I have no depth perception because I stabbed my eye out with a spoon.  Hmmm I wonder how I’ll look with an eye patch.

Just Another Manic Monday

It’s just another Manic Monday. I’ve been up since 8am, already did a crap load of work. I will probably have to do more later, but that’s okay. In between I have several hours to write. Above you see where I’m at in the story. Not bad, but I can most definitely do better.

Realization has hit. I just have to keep moving the story forward. I can go back once the first draft is complete to cut chapters, edit idiotic dialogue, and add points into the story that would help it move along better. I’ve never gotten completely through because, well I go over the same few chapters again and again trying to make every detail perfect. I just need to hammer out the story. That’s why it’s called a rough draft.

The dogs are running around outside like crazy. Well the puppies are. Momma Peg and Storm are content to sleep. Rolley and Shadow however have been chasing each other around for over an hour. They never seem to run out of energy when they play together.

Supernatural’s 100th episode was just, awesome! If you missed it, find a way to watch it! By far the best episode of the season! This week’s episode seems like it’s going to be the comic relief episode. A lot of people complain about those type of episodes, but I like them. It gives us a break from the edge of your seat, witty drama, and the fans can just have some fun watching the boys do what they do best. I know I know I’m a dork.

On that note, this is going to be a short post because I’m not going to procrastinate. I’m going to get back on the story!! Enjoy your Monday! Not likely, I know, but you can try!

Chapter Two is EVIL!

I’m late! I’m late! I have been so crazy with work and other things and really that’s just an excuse. Excuses = bad. I know I know, stop making excuses and do it! Well this is why I’m typing write now. New blog upcoming!

I really like the first chapter of the story that I’m working on. It’s still very rough and what not. I haven’t gone back to do any changes, I just read it back over and was a bit impressed with myself. I thought I did a pretty good job. Pretty good is not great, but that comes later when I actually get the entire story hammered out.

Therein lies the problem. Chapter two is being the most stubborn, uncooperative, want to kick the words and beat them up, chapter every. I know where the story is going, I really, actually and truly do, which is why after I did chapter two I moved on to chapter’s three and four. For some reason though, I keep coming back to chapter two. Something isn’t sitting right with me and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe chapter two is a bit slow, or maybe I pulled too many extra characters in at that point. I’m just not sure. I just know it’s not right.

Now, I could continue writing new chapters, but the problem with that is, depending on what I change in chapter two it could, at least in subtle ways change the way the story goes. Either way a lot would have to change, so at the moment I’m sticking with chapter two until I can figure out what’s bugging me and what I need to do to change it.

On the reading side of things I am completely stuck on Phaedra Weldon’s Zoe Martinique series. I go through the books in less than a day. I neglect all of my responsibilities, stay up till ungodly hours (well okay for most people it’s ungodly hours), and sometimes ignore the phone completely just to find out what’s going to happen next. I’ve read Wraith and Spectre. On Tuesday I’ll be heading out to the library to pick up Phantasm.
I’m trying to get into Daemon’s are Forever by Simon R. Green. I usually adore his stuff but for some reason, this one seems a bit slow. However, I have been assured by a very reliable source that it is well worth the read, so I will push on!

The new Dresden book is out and I have it on hold, but I think it may be a while before I get it. The library has more copies on order due to the high volume of people who want it. Everyone loves a wizard.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Why does Atlanta have yet ANOTHER power play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh um *Blushes* My bad. Hockey fanatic.
LET’S GO PENS!

Not Impressed

410 WORDS IN 27 MINUTES

The above is not good.  I can do better.  I will do better.  GRRR.  See it’s still frustrating, but such is life.  I’ve been extremely busy between work, writing, and just every day life.  At least my characters seem to be cooperating again.  Woohoo!   Now I just need to get my word count up.  Write now, edit later.

I’m also in the process of reading Wraith by Phaedra Weldon.  So far so good.  I haven’t been reading it as much as I’d like due to the above mentioned business, but that’s all right.  I’ll get there.

The sky is gray, the day is dreary.  My sanity is slowing slipping away.  To save it I must release the people in my mind, putting them on paper and letting them have lives of their owns so they don’t take over mine.  Though, their lives are considerably more interesting.  Still, I have my life, they have theirs.  I just try to get their story out.

Nah I don’t sound the list bit crazy.  That’s all right though.  What fun is being normal?

*Raises Glass*  To Schizophrenia!  Okay, maybe not.  Time to stop procrastinating!

*Takes a deep breath*  Okay, time to finish up this short, yet sweet blog and get back to writing.

Okay Characters of Mine…Why Have You Gone Silent?

The mood is set.  Flames are flickering bright in the fireplace, my playlist is blaring music I love, and no one else is around.  This, unfortunately, seems to include my characters.  It seems like every letter, word, and sentence has to be forced, kicking and screaming onto the page.  The word irritating comes to mind, but then I think that’s a really mild interpretation, dig deeper.  So, let’s try infuriating.  I like infuriating.  It fits better.

Dear Characters,

I know that we do not always get a long.  Sometimes I am stubborn, pigheaded, and don’t want to give you what you want.  However we can come to some sort of compromise, if you give it a chance.  Just remember if you block me, your story doesn’t get told.

Sincerely,

The Writer

So, while I let the characters mull that over, I’d like to address some other things.

First off…

R.I.P. Corey Haim

I was a child of the eighties and had a huge crush on him.  The only one who beat him out was Jonathon Brandis on my hot meter.  Alas, he was another one who perished much to young.

Hollywood are you not seeing what you are doing to these children?  You take child actors, use and abuse them, and cast them off when puberty or whatever gets in the way.  Those who have made it had to go through hell just to be taken seriously as an adult actor.  Seriously Hollywood, I think it’s time for you guys to revamp your system.

Still, I’m not sure Corey died of an OD.  Is it possible?  Yes.  Does anyone know for sure?  No.  So stop judging people!

Corey Haim, I hope you find in the next life what you could not in this.  True happiness and love.

I finished Happy Hour of the Damned and I have to say I was impressed.  It was a completely original book, snarky, fun, and with a lot of mystery weaved into it.  I will pick up the next installment in the series on my monthly trip to the bookstore (I stock up with several books once a month).

The dogs have now decided that the couch is theirs.  They jumped up and now I’m squished in the middle.  They’re sleeping comfortably though.  On that note, I need to readjust my position and try to get a little more butt room.  Here’s to hoping that the characters have decided to work with me again so we can get this story moving!

Margaritas and Chicken Wings Friday! Who Can Complain?

I’m sitting here sipping on my first Margarita of the day. (Hey it’s five o’clock somewhere!) The weather has warmed up if ever so slightly and my toes are actually warm.  I’d prefer a tropical sandy beach with hot men as eye candy, but I’ll take what I can get.  Besides my hubby is better looking than any eye candy.

I’ve been mulling over some twists for the story, and actually came up with some phrases I wrote down immediately so that my short-term memory wouldn’t erase them.  Hailey, my protagonist, is of course being stubborn, but that’s all right.  I don’t like it when my characters do everything I say.  Sometimes when they argue the story goes in a better direction.  Listen to your characters, sometimes they know more than you!

I’m reading Mark Henry’s “Happy Hour Of The Damned”.  Gotta say I’m loving it so far.  At first the foot notes were irritating, but now I see it just as part of Amanda’s quirky attitude and it adds that much more to the story.  So while I haven’t finished it yet, I give Mark Henry an A for originality!  Bravo!  We’ll see about the book itself once I’m done.

On the WOW front I’m power leveling my Paladin, Delilaah, as we are in desperate need of descent taking.  We have one tank full of awesomeness, but considering the fact that all raids (with the exception of maybe one) needs two tanks, well I’m doing what I gotta do!  We started ICC this week and have surpassed the second boss with minimal idiocy.  I must say I’m proud.  Seeing as it’s Friday we don’t know yet if we’ll be attempting to continue.  It depends on who is on.  Of course there is this lovely thing called Raid Extensions.  We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

This Margarita is FANTASTIC!  Once a month everyone should have Margaritas and Chicken Wing Fridays!  Well of course this is provided you are of legal age to drink.  It’s lots of fun, a total stress reliever, and switching it up now and then isn’t a bad thing.  Remember that.

Scatter In The Brain!

It has been a long, fun filled day of anxiety and stress. The weather is in tune. It’s been gray, muggy and trying to rain all day. It finally succeeded about an hour or so ago. My mind is scattered, but the knot in my chest has been kind enough to start loosening in an attempt to unravel itself. That would be nice. Anyone who’s ever had anxiety knows that it is a horrible feeling.

It pulls and tightens making it seem like you can’t breathe, but in reality you actually can. However if you don’t concentrate on the fact that you can you sometimes forget and begin to hyperventilate. Then comes the numbing off the face and locking up of the hands. It’s not so much fun. I concentrated. Ergo I could breathe, though sometimes it seemed difficult.

Playing with the dogs helped. They’re good distractions. Of course a lot of people don’t know why they had the anxiety to begin with. I did, though I’m not at liberty to say. It all worked out though so my body is finally starting to relax. YAY!

Onward and upward. Due to the anxiety my writing skills today were less than…well less. Thoughts going off in thirty thousand different directions, worried feelings, anger, confusion, not knowing what was going on, it all contributed and most of my focus was on remembering I could breathe. I have to say it worked.

Still, now things are somewhat settled and my body and mind are coming together in sync. This means I’m going to try writing again. I’m stuck on chapter three because I realized after I wrote the initial that I completely forgot to write something important in the chapter. If I didn’t add it now it would cause problems later on. Of course having to add it in meant changing the dynamics of the entire chapter, but that’s okay. The characters seem to be cooperating, which is always a plus, and I’m liking that the plot line is actually on course. (Well it is when I remember to add the necessary parts of the story!)

So I’ve got a few hours before I have to raid tonight on WOW. We finished up TOTC and to be honest I’m not sure what we’re planning on raiding tonight. We’ll probably do the weekly and then I have no idea. We’re not ready for ICC yet. Definitely need higher gear scores for that. Oh plus more practice healing for me. I’m still not quite used to it. Shadow Priests ROCK!

On that note I’m going to head out. Time to get to work and stop stalling! Sorry for the scattered nature of this post. While it may seem a bit odd to you, it was necessary for me.
